Japanese Fairy Tales

“Japanese Fairy Tales” is a book by Yei Theodora Ozaki that explores some of the most famous stories in Japan. These stories traverse some of the more symbolic, adventurous, and eye-opening narratives in Japanese folklore. Due to the more traditional nature of this book, I endeavored to create a layout and cover that felt like it belonged to the older art periods of Japan. To achieve this effect, I used culturally symbolic elements and designed them to mimic the style of scroll paintings because they were known for depicting amazing stories.
